Revision, primary links, TLAC and prefects

As the dark nights are now upon us I have been impressed with commitment of year 11 students staying behind to attend after school revision.  As we move closer to their PPE exams (mocks), this revision will be vital in preparing for these exams and the ones in the summer. Mr Hann, Mr Gilchrist and I are going to be talking to year 11 students next week about the importance of these exams and how they can prepare effectively.

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of meeting again with Mrs Menis (Headteacher at Shakespeare Primary School) and Mr Lancaster (Headteacher at Knowle Primary School), both of whom came to All Saints to look around and discuss the transition of their year 6 students to us.  It was good to talk about our plans for future work and how we can work together this year.

On Wednesday we had our staff training again where we were working on teaching techniques from Doug Lemov’s Teach Like a Champion (TLAC) programme.  This centered around all staff role playing and practising the techniques known as ‘no opt out, cold call and wait time’.  These are all about getting our students to participate in lessons and really think carefully about what they are learning.

Looking to next week, we are preparing to launch our ‘Student Prefect’ programme, which will see year 10 students invited to be prefects at the academy and contributing to school life.  Mr Lucas and I look forward to receiving the applications.  We will also look at appointing a Head Boy and Head Girl from this process.

Best wishes,

Lee Sargeant
