Stars in Our Schools, PPEs, Ofsted and Trips

I was pleased to hear this week that Yvonne Rowe, our brilliant meal time assistant and day-time cleaner, had been selected as the regional winner for the South West Stars in Our Schools award.  Yvonne has won for her incredible dedication to the Academy over 20 years. Yvonne is always cheerful, positive, kind and works so hard for others. She boosts us all and relates really well to all the children and staff at the school, day in day out. She has led the cleaning team for so many years and you can often hear her singing in the corridors which makes us smile at the end of some tough days. All schools need an Yvonne! Only just last week she spent time with Lorraine, another MTA and cleaner helping to re-paint our corridors.  Thank you Yvonne and Lorraine for this!

On Monday I received a call from Lee Northern, an Ofsted Inspector, who came to visit our Academy on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.  He and the other inspector spent two days talking to staff, pupils and governors on the progress the Academy was making towards the removal of special measures.  I am pleased to report that we are well on with our improvement journey and there has been a transformation since September to the Academy, including behaviour, quality of teaching and leadership.  I will share the report here when it is finally published, but well done to all involved.  What was most pleasing was hearing feedback from the pupils on how much they felt the Academy had improved.

Also this week all of year 11 have been engaged in Pre-Public Exams – these are mock exams for students which will allow them to practice for the real exams in the summer term. I must say despite a whole week of back to back exams, pupils worked really hard.  A PPE Results Day will be on the 10th January followed by a parents’ evening.

Lastly, I forgot to report this in my blog last week, but Mrs Kirtley took her year 10 Business Studies group on a trip to Plymouth City Bus to learn more about the world of business.  They all enjoyed the trip and obligatory photograph attached.

Until next week,

Lee Sargeant
