Final few weeks, Sports Day, and Plymouth University Showcase

With only two weeks to go now until the summer break, we are working hard to get ready for September.  Next week we are starting the new timetable with our students to allow a period of settling in.  We are also welcoming our new Year 7s in for an induction day and it will be good to see the new faces.

On Monday we had our sports day which was a huge success.  We decided to try a different approach and have ‘inclusive’ sports which everyone could take part in.  This included a human inflatable assault course, tug of war and dodgeball to name but a few of the activities.  Students competed in their new vertical tutoring form groups against other form groups.  Feedback from students and staff was that this was the best sports day they had ever taken part in.  It was great to see all students participating and building teamworking skills as well.  The day ended with a staff relay race and Scott House won this.  Well done to Mr Gibbons and his team for organising this.  We look forward to next year.

In other news, recently our students took part in the Plymouth University Showcase. Forty students, a mix of year 9 and 10, attended an Arts and Humanities Showcase at Plymouth University to experience what university has to offer.

Whilst there, they were able to take part in a number of activities such as; virtual reality, 3D design, learning about photography portraits, creative and fine art, immersive theatre and green screen production.

Competitiveness was fierce in one activity between competing schools. The aim to design a small boat from provided materials to race, only powered by the students blowing, saw All Saints leave the day with the fastest design.  Go team ASAP!

The day also saw a number of budding TV presenters with the students having the opportunity to use green screen technology, operating TV cameras and behind the scenes technology.

The students should be very proud of the way in which they represented All Saints Academy, their behaviour was impeccable, they thoroughly engaged in all that was on offer and made the most of the opportunity. An excellent day was had by all that participated.  Thank you to Mrs Ham for organising.

Until next week,
