The Curriculum

Our aim is to provide students with a curriculum suitable for their individual needs. The curriculum both challenges and inspires, but is founded on acquisition of essential skills and knowledge.

The academy operates a two year Key Stage 3, (years 7 and 8), and a 3 year Key Stage 4, (years 9 to 11). Students choose their option subjects at the end of their year 8.

In years 7 and 8, students follow a timetable made up of: (25 hours a week)

English (4), Mathematics (4), Science (3), Languages (2), Humanities [Geography, History, Religious studies] (3.5), IT (1), Creative [Art, Music, Drama, Technology, cooking] (4), PE (2), Secondary Ready (2)

In years 9 to 11, students follow a timetable made up of:

English (4), Mathematics (4), Science (4), Religious studies (1), PE (1.5), PHSE (0.5) and 4 option subjects made up of two from the first list and two from the second list (10). All subjects are studied at GCSE (levels 1 and 2) with the exception of ASDAN and Motor Vehicle (level 1 only).

On arrival in year 7 students are initially taught in mixed ability classes before they are grouped by ability. The majority of subjects remain in ability classes through to year 11, although students move frequently to match individual needs.
