Curriculum Choices
The option subjects are a range of GCSEs and Level 2 vocational qualifications that are arranged into two blocks. We construct the blocks to maximise the number of students who can study two of their three first-choice subjects once initial requests are known from the application process.
Students approach a critical point in their education as they decide which subjects to study at examination level during Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11). These decisions can have a significant impact on their future pathways, helping to shape their post-16 options, career aspirations and personal goals.
To support students in making informed choices, they receive Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) throughout the options process. Students are encouraged to discuss their strengths, interests, attainment and future aspirations with subject teachers during Parents' Evening and through feedback provided in their Cycle 2 reports. They also have opportunities to seek advice from their tutor, Pastoral Lead and other members of staff involved in the options process, ensuring that they receive personalised guidance and support.
In addition, students attend a carousel of sample lessons and subject assemblies, providing valuable insight into the content, skills and expectations of each course. These experiences help students develop a deeper understanding of the subjects available and how they align with their interests, abilities and future goals.
Students and their parents/carers are then invited to attend our Options Evening, where they can gather further information, explore potential pathways and speak directly with subject staff before finalising their choices.
The Options Booklet below outlines all the courses available, along with detailed curriculum information for each subject.
If you have any questions or queries, please contact the relevant subject lead teacher (details can be found on the individual option subject pages) or email [email protected].
